The term PBIS stands for positive behavior intervention supports.  PBIS is as system in place to recognize students for positive interactions they have in the building.  The use of the PBIS framework has been a state wide initiative that has been implemented in various ways in other schools.  Here at Dottke, we have used PBIS to help shape the culture of the building by using reward systems such as student of the week, Dottke dollars (for prizes) and positive redirection techniques in the classroom to promote the use of positive actions in the building.  Also, in combination with our Do The Right Thing (DTRT) curriculum, we try to demonstrate what these positive actions would look like and sound like.  By using this combination, students are able to have a better idea on ways to better interact not only in the building but also society.
