James E. Dottke High School was proud to host the 2017-18 NAREN Regional Mini-Conference on November 14th.  NAREN is the "National At-Risk Educators Network" and is comprised of schools and agencies that share the common goal of educating and supporting at-risk students.  It is a national organization, of which Wisconsin has a strong state chapter.  The mini-conference that took place at Dottke HS was a precursor to the state conference that takes place in February in the Wisconsin Dells and included attendees form southeastern Wisconsin.  The conference included 32 total people, representing 17 different school districts or agencies.  The principal of Dottke HS, Greg Goelz, greeted the group and delivered a presentation on the impactfull work being accomplished at Dottke HS, as well as throughout the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District.  Other presenters shared out information on growing mental health concerns in schools, as well as the effects of traumatic brain injuries.  Collaboration time, sharing out of best practices and networking also took place during this powerful conference.
